- Step By Step Process of Visa Application.
- Occupation in MODL (Migration On Demand List)
- Go to the visa checker tool and select the appropriate visa for as per requirement from above list and check the eligibility criteria and requirements to apply for the visa. Also check if a candidate applicant fulfills the Point criteria i.e. Skillselect Permanent Resident Visas require minimum 60 points to apply for visa. Maximum the points can be obtained increases chances of the successful visa application. Example point table to be shown. It has points for Age, Education, Employment and IELTS/TOEFL English proficiency tests. There are other factors as well which can award the points.
- Check for appropriate Skills assessment type according to the Occupation listed in MODL list. Every occupation has a different Skills assessment requirements and agencies who offer this service. All these agencies are affiliated with DIAC and Australian government. Skills assessment is a mandatory step for many visas especially Permanent Resident Visas in order to prove skills obtained by the candidate outside Australia are equivalent to skills required in Australia. Skills assessment authorities ask for all Education and employment documents for assessment. Basically all the documents which would award the points for visa. Mention the basic requirements on Employment documents and Education documents. Skills assessment processing time is maximum 12 weeks and its fees are around $550 for fresh application and $400 (Approx) for revaluation of the application. Once Skills assessment is issues by authorized agency it can be used for visa processing and its validity is 2 years from the date of issue. If during visa application skills assessment validity expires then candidate applicant might have to reapply for it at the discretion of Visa case officer.
- Other than Student Visa which needs Academic IELTS exam, all other Visas have a mandatory requirement of General IELTS score/band. If IELTS overall band is above 7(all 4 modules with more than 7) and less than 8 out of 9 then it awards 10 points for Visa, and if its above 8 (all 4 modules above 8)and less than 9 then it awards 20 points for visa. Scoring in IELTS is comparatively easy if practice for the exam properly. For all visas it’s mandatory to prove English proficiency as its Australia’s only language and they expect the people coming to Australia should be able to communicate in English without any problem. There are 4 modules in IELTS exam, Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. All 4 modules have an equal weight age. IDP and British Council organizes IELTS exams and they charge around $350 for this exam.
- State sponsorship visas (489 – Temporary Regional & 190 – Permanent) are operated separately throughout the process. Applicants need to check particular state’s website for their Migration On demand occupation list and fill the nomination or show an interest for being nominated on DIAC website. Once Nominated through either way then applicant needs to fill the nomination forms and pay the fees ($400 Approx.) and then applicant would receive direct invitation for application to visa if EOI (Expression of Interest) has been filled on the DIAC site. Rest of the procedure remains same until visa gets grated. Refer below the EOI and Invitation round process.
- Once Skills Assessment is approved and all documentation is ready when applicant is making 60 or more points for application of visa, then next step is to Submit EOI – Expression of Interest and Invitations Rounds. Recently in 2012, DIAC Australia changed the Visa application system when they made everything online and introduced SkillSelect system. In this new system Applicants need to submit EOI form with Occupation, Education, Skills Assessment and Employment History etc. It’s advisable that applicant should make at least 60 points and to maintain those until EOI is in System. If Points increase before EOI is accepted and invitation is received, applicant has an option to edit EOI. Once EOI is submitted applicant becomes eligible to participate in Invitation rounds for Permanent Residency skilled visas. DIAC organizes two Invitation rounds every month and issues overall 1000-1200 invitations for all kind of visas. Once invitation is received applicant gets two months to apply for visa with all documents and pay the fees ($3500 – $4000 Approx.).
- Once Visa application is submitted online, DIAC assigns a case officer for that application who is responsible for approving or rejecting a visa application. It takes almost 8-9 weeks for a case officer to be assigned post visa application. Case officer checks all submitted documents and may ask for extra documents if not submitted or need for proving a claim. But it’s not mandatory for them to ask for extra documents as required documents list is clearly mentioned on DIAC site. Case officer scrutinize all the documents and then ask applicant to go for Medical tests (Based on Visa Requirement) and to submit PCC (Police Clearance Certificate) for each country where applicant has lived for 12 months or more. Once these two last formalities are fulfilled, Visa case officer either issues the visa or reject the visa application with reason.
- If visa is approved then the date will be mentioned by when an applicant will have to land in Australia and if it’s rejected then what next actions can be taken like reevaluation or when they can apply for visa again. For permanent resident visas, the date by when an applicant needs to land or make a first visit is generally a 12 months from the date when PCC was issued.
